I got a half-way decent paint program for myself on my birthday, so I am able to do some proper CG work on pictures now. It's far from using a tablet and Photoshop, but it's all right. Backgrounds are fun to make, they really are. Shading without a tablet is up there with finals for being the evil work of creation. Damn light source.
